On July 27, 1890, Van Gogh shot himself in the stomach with a revolver right in the middle of the field
He managed to walk home and go upstairs to his room. He died two days after the incident. He spent his last moments with his brother Theo, who heard his last words: "The sadness will last forever"

NIGHT
Another version says that in fact it was Gauguin who cut off his friend's earlobe during fencing, and they invented the story with the dispute in order to avoid arrest. How the situation really stood - for sure it will remain a mystery. It is very significant that Van Gogh immortalized his "wound" in one of his selfportraits
"Starry Night", perhaps his most famous work, was written in a psychiatric hospital in Saint-Remy-de-Provence, France

THE LEGEND
OF
He voluntarily confessed that he had come there to recover from a nervous breakdown in 1888. The painting depicts a view from his bedroom window. It is curious: astronomical calculations have shown that the configuration of the starry sky on June 19, 1889 roughly coincides with Van Gogh's vision
In fact only a part of the ear (the lobe) was cut off. It happened in Arles on Christmas Day 1888. A heated argument with Gauguin drove Van Gogh into such madness that he grabbed a razor and mutilated his ear. In some versions of this story, he took the severed earlob to a local brothel, where he offered it to the girl as a gift
Van Gogh painted more than 30 selfportraits written in different periods they allow, they allow us to evaluate all the transformations of Van Gogh's soul and creativity
Being unknown and poor, Van Gogh did not have the means to pay for the work of a model, so he had to paint his self-portraits

the end
Vincent wrote almost as many letters as paintings (about 800 appeals, mostly to his brother Theo). Van Gogh and Theo were connected not only by blood kinship, but also by a real spiritual closeness
After Vincent's death, Theo tried in vain to organize a posthumous exhibition of the artist's works, but could not survive the loss of his beloved brother: literally six months later, Theo was overtaken by a mental breakdown, and soon he died
